Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale

Unless otherwise announced, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply hosts its Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale at its Hālawa Xeriscape Garden, at 99-1268 ʻIwaena Street in Hālawa Valley’s Central Park industrial area on the first Saturday in August. Admission is free. Park on ʻIwaena Street and catch a free shuttle to the garden.

There, an abundance of drought-resistant plants await plant lovers looking for just the right plant to brighten their lanai, adorn their yards, or dress up their windows. This annual event promises to be an unthirsty plant paradise. The endless array of reasonably priced plants may be purchased with major credit cards only. No cash or checks.

Meandering through a three-acre garden, a lush oasis nestled in Hālawa Valley’s Central Park and browsing through the tables and tables of unique plants that can thrive with little water is a fun, educational experience for the entire family. Event-goers can expect the following:

  • A variety of xeric plants by local vendors
  • Educational booths
  • Workshops
  • Free soil conditioner will be available while supplies last (one bag per person)
  • and more!

This annual event is focused on xeriscaping, a creative way to reduce outdoor water use through efficient landscaping. Event proceeds help to support educational activities at the Hālawa Xeriscape Garden. The open house is co-sponsored by the Friends of Hālawa Xeriscape Garden (FOHXG), a non-profit community group that supports educational programs related to water conservation in the landscape.
