What Happens When a Main Break Occurs?

When a main break occurs, the Board of Water Supply’s top priority is to protect public health and safety, while minimizing water loss and the impact on the public. Repairs are complex and require considerable care and time. Our crews work to restore service as quickly as possible.

NOTE: Not all main breaks will appear on this page. If a main break occurs on a pipe 4" or larger, or if an outage has widespread impact on the community, basic information and updates will be posted, as they become available, on the BWS website, on Facebook, X, and Nextdoor, and on HNL Alert. The map posted on the BWS homepage will contain the most current information about reported main breaks.
